Hackers threatened to leak full episodes of HBO upcoming shows along with written material from next week’s episode of “Game of Thrones.”
Written material that is allegedly from the fourth episode of Game of Thrones was leaked after a cyber attack hit HBO. The cybercriminals also leaked an upcoming episode of Ballers and Room 104. The hackers claimed to have obtained 1.5 terabytes of data from the company.
The Chief executive Richard Plepler confirmed the incident in an email sent to staff. Plepler said, “HBO recently experienced a cyber incident, which resulted in the compromise of proprietary information,” We immediately began investigating the incident and are working with law enforcement and outside cybersecurity firms. Data protection is a top priority at HBO, and we take seriously our responsibility to protect the data we hold.”
HBO did not reveal what data had been stolen or posted online, and there was no immediate indication of whether the breach included customer data or personal information about employees.
According to Channel24, on Sunday media houses in the US received a message from hackers, warning them of the attack. The email read: “Hi to all mankind. The greatest leak of cyber space era is happening. What’s its name? Oh I forget to tell. Its HBO and Game of Thrones……!!!!!! You are lucky to be the first pioneers to witness and download the leak. Enjoy it & spread the words. Whoever spreads well, we will have an interview with him. . . HBO is falling.”
If the hackers do manage to leak episodes of Game of Thrones, it would not be the first time. In 2015 the first four episodes of the fifth season were leaked online before they aired. Netflix was also hacked in April this year and the cybercriminals managed to leak a season of Orange is the New Black a month before it was due to air.
