Somalia's first taxi hailing app goes live

The Taxi hailing app service was designed with respect to the culture and technology in Somalia.

In a bid to provide a better transportation system, tech entrepreneurs from Somalia have launched the country’s first taxi hailing app Waryaa Taxi, much like Uber, it allows customers to book rides from their smartphones. For those who do not have access to a smartphone or computer, the Waryaa app allows users to contact a call centre to dispatch a ride, the user then gets a call directly from the driver.

The free web and smartphone application connects passengers directly with taxi drivers allowing customers to book taxis conveniently.

The taxi hailing app also aims to improve productivity for taxi drivers, car hire companies and private drivers.

Waryaa Taxi plans to roll out its taxi hailing app services in neighboring countries Djibouti, Kenya and Ethiopia. The app currently covers all regional languages such as Amharic, Swahili, Somali, English and French.

The app is available on Google play store.
